Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is one of the best places to visit in Mongolia. We offer you the “Best-Planned Trekking Tour and attend at Naadam Festival”. During the trip, you will see the snowcapped Altai Mountains, beautiful Khoton lake, and a number of gorgeous valleys. Also, you have an opportunity to visit nomadic families such as Tuvans who are well known for their Shamanism beliefs. And by the Khoton Lakeside, we will stay at nomadic eagle hunter’s place. Enjoy the hospitality of nomadic Kazakh people and experience their ancient cultures.
The trip has included attending the Annual Naadam Festival. It is the Mongolian biggest celebration, full of activities such as traditional game competitions and folk concerts. Our tour has included such activities as trekking, climbing, horse riding, and swimming or fishing (by the lake). The tour itinerary is absolutely fixable if you would like to make some sort of changes (date & duration) Please get in touch with us!
The transportation during the trip will be 4*4 offroad Land Cruiser or Russian Van. Our support team has an expedition cook who will prepare a delicious meal including traditional and international
dishes. If you have any meal requests such as Vegetarian or Halal just let us know in advance. All camping and cooking equipment is taken care of from our side. All you need is to bring your own needs and maybe a sleeping bag.
The mountain weather is very changeable. You can witness all four seasons in a day. So, we highly recommend bringing warm clothes and waterproof jackets. We will do our best to make this trip unforgettable and will try to add a maximum highlight which doesn’t mention on tour description. Our Discover Altai team will meet you upon arrival at Genghis Khan International Airport. And you will be taken to your hotel. For all members of our group, we will book a room in the same hotel. And those who arrived in Mongolia earlier, please join us at our location on July 2. Welcome dinner at the restaurant.
Today you will take a domestic flight to Bayan-Olgii province. This is the westernmost corner of the country. You will meet your expedition team at the local airport. The whole team is ready to travel and let’s get started. Arrival at the entrance to the national park. The roads are bad, so the journey can take up to 6 hours. Enjoy a delicious dinner from the chef.
Today is our first day of the hike. It will take about 6 hours and you will reach the base camp. The camels will take care of all the language. And for the hike, bring a small backpack and only the essentials like water, a waterproof jacket, etc. Enjoy the panoramic view of Altai Mountains
Altai Tavan Bogd means “Holy Five Peaks”. And Malchin is one of the five peaks. The total ascent takes about 6-7 hours. Climbing up is a bit difficult and requires caution. It is not recommended to climb to the top in bad weather conditions. As an alternative, we can suggest you explore the Potanin Glacier, where you can see an icy river and the background image of Mount Khuiten.
Today we will go back to the White River valley. Enjoy the beautiful nature while walking along the
white river.
From the White River valley, we will go to the Black valley. Both of these valleys are inhabited by the nomadic Tuvan people, who have their own language and traditions. If you are brave enough, you can try their handmade vodka. And please don’t forget to remind your guide of this. Tuvans are also known for their belief in shamanism.
Bear Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the National Park. The entrance to this valley is very narrow and is accessible from mid-June until September 1st. Once upon a time, there were many bears in this valley, but now, due to the tourist season, they can be seen once in a hundred. But if you are lucky, you can see other animals such as red deer, fox, and some rare birds.
Today we will be trekking for about 4 hours, and at the end of the valley, our transport will be waiting
for us. Say goodbye to the camel herders and switch to the car. Drive on for about 2 hours and
camp at Lake Khoton with great views.
After breakfast, we will visit the Waterfalls valley and trek for about 2 hours. This is a very famous
place for local tourism and it is likely that there will be a lot of people here. After a short hike, we will
drive back to Olgii which is going to take about 6 hours. You will be transferred to the hotel. Take
your time, and we will have dinner at the restaurant.
Today we will go out of town, where the horse races will take place. Enjoy the traditional Naadam festival. In the afternoon we will return to the city and move to the stadium where the last 4 wrestlers will fight for the winner. In fact, Naadam lasts 2 days on the 10th and 11th. Due to the schedule of domestic flights, we will only visit the main day of Naadam
Today you have an opportunity to visit the nomadic eagle hunter’s family and experience more
about their way of living. Enjoy the farewell dinner “Bes Barmaq”
Day 12 / 13th July: Fly back to Ulaanbaatar.
