Day 1Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, city tour

Our guide and driver will meet you at your accommodation and start the city sightseeing tour. First, you will visit Gandantegchilen Monastery. The monastery is a favored place for locals as well as foreigners due to its interesting religious artifacts and peacefulness. A 26 m gilded statue of a Buddha (in Megjid Janrasag sum) is another thing of interest. Next, visit National Museum of Mongolia followed by a visit to the central square and drive to Zaisan Memorial to see the panoramic view of Ulaanbaatar.

Day 2Tsagaan Suvarga colorful mud cliffs

Tsagaan Suvarga means “White Stupa.” It is one of the most famous highlights in the Gobi. Tsagaan Suvarga is a strange natural formation of colorful, massive mud cliffs look like stupas. Hiking through the cliffs and take beautiful pictures.

Day 3Hiking in Eagle Valley in Gurvansaikhan National Park

The Gobi Gurban Saikhan means “Three beautiful mountains in the Gobi.” The Gobi Gurban Saikhan Mountain is a beautiful national park itself rich in wildlife and scenic places. Among them, Yoliin Am/Eagle Valley is the accessible one by car. After our car parks at an allowed area, we will walk through the beautiful valley into depths sheer rock canyon, which accepts no sunlight. Therefore, it has ice until the end of June. The hiking continues 2.5 to 3 hours on the two ways. Golden eagles, very shy wild sheep and ibexes are indigenous to the valley. Accommodation: Ger camp. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4Khongor Sand Dunes, camel riding

Our journey will continue to Khongor, the largest sand dunes. After reaching the sand dunes, go hiking along the green river shore, climb sand dunes, visit a nomad family and have an hour camel riding. If you can climb one of the tallest sand dunes, don’t forget to spread the sand northwards against the wind to find the reason why locals call the sand dunes “Singing Sand.” The views are fantastic from the top of the sand dunes.

Day 5 Flaming Cliffs and Bayanzag

Our adventure will continue to the Flaming Cliffs, where American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews found the cemetery of dinosaurs and the first dinosaur eggs ever discovered in the world. We will have some hiking through the cliffs in search of dinosaur fossils may found and see the Gobi tree grove named “Bayanzag.” Bayanzag means “rich in saxaul trees.” This tree only grows in Central Asian Gobi.

Day 6Drive to Ongi Monastery on the open steppes

Drive first through slate mountains and next on 80 km Ongi steppes heading Ongi Monastery. Ongi Monastery was one of the biggest seven monasteries in Mongolia. There were two separate monasteries consisted of more than 30 temples on the shores of the Ongi River surrounded by the Gobi mountains. The temples were destroyed during the socialist purge of the 1930s. Now the ruins of the monasteries involve a huge area. Visit a new active temple, a ger museum, explore the monastery ruins and climb a nearby mountain to have views of the surrounding areas from up and.

Day 7Kharkhorin, ancient Monastery Erdenezuu

Our today’s tour takes place in the transition zone from the Gobi desert to mountain steppes. Kharkhorin, formerly known as Karakorum, was once a capital of Genghis Khaan’s Great Mongol Empire in the 13th century. After the move of Mongolian capital to Beijing, and the fall of the Empire, Karakorum was abandoned and then destroyed by Manchurian soldiers in 1388. Today, in the vast valley of the Orkhon River, awe-inspiring ancient monastery Erdenezuu coexists with Kharkhorin town. See some valuable religious articles in the monastery museum, admire its stunning architecture and the Kharakhorum Museum display remnants of the ancient city.

Day 8Arkhangai province, explore more about the nomadic life and have an authentic Mongolian barbecue

Short tour of Tsetserleg town of Arkhangai province including its interesting local market. Continue the journey to yak herding nomadic family. Have an authentic Mongolian barbecue for lunch and explore more about the nomadic life of northern Mongolian nomads. Next, drive through the picturesque landscapes of Arkhangai with a stop at Chuluut River canyon. Arrive at Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park late afternoon.

Day 9 Khorgo Terhiin Tsagaan National Park

On the way to Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan NP, we will break for a short at the Chuluut River. The Chuluut River flows between 30-50 m high lava canyons. The Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park was established to protect the spectacular mountain scenery and endangered species of its flora & fauna. There are several extinct volcanoes within the National Park area. The most spectacular and the most accessible one is Khorgo volcano. Astonishingly beautiful, clear water lake Terkhiin Tsagaan (known as Great White Lake) formed after lava flows from the volcanoes blocked the north and south Terkh Rivers. The lake is renowned for its fish and birdlife, including the Ruddy Shellduck and Great Cormorant. Rare species of flowers and pine trees grow in the black volcanic soil, and ancient lava flows streak out across the meadow are home to alpine wildlife. In the afternoon, we climb the Khorgo volcano. The Khorgo volcano extinguished 8000- 6000 years ago. Its surrounding area has plenty of caves and hides outs. That are why the volcano was named Khorgo. “Khorgo” means “shelter.” Khorgo is not only extinct volcano in the vicinity. There are some more, but Khorgo is youngest and the most accessible one. Here, you will see much of the National Park’s territory is covered with thick basalt. Climb the volcano on stairs and trails. Once you are on the volcano, walk along the volcano rim with outstanding views of surrounding areas, a small village by the volcano and view of the Terhkiin Tsagaan Lake. In the afternoon, tour to fresh water Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan.

Day 10Overnight near Shine Ider

Today, we watch birds while driving and walking along the shore of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. The driving will be scenic through flower-carpeted mountain valley have some ancient historical remnants and as well as pass a high mountain pass.

Day 11See deer stones and Khuvsgul Lake

The journey continues to beautiful and the world’s freshest water Lake Khuvsgul. This 136 km long, 38 km wide lake lies 1600 m above sea level in the middle of Siberian taiga forest and among majestic sheer rock mountains. The lake and its surrounding area are pristine and have much to offer its guests. On our way, we explore some deer stones spread widely in Central Asia. 600 deer stones found in Central Asia. 500 of them found in the territory of Mongolia. Deer stone is the first monuments of the human. The earliest of them belong to XIII-IX century BC while most of them belong to The Bronze Age. On repaired standing stones, the sun, the moon, belt, knife, and deer those are jumping up sky were carved fantastically. After being settled in a ger camp conveniently located on the western shore of the lake, we will have a lunch and drive and hike up a mountain to see views of the lake and its surrounding area from up.

Day 12 Visit reindeer family and horse riding tour at Khuvsgul Lake

The Reindeer/Tsaatan people live in the depths of the taiga forest. Few reindeer are the primary resource of their livelihood. In summer months, few reindeer families move down from the Taiga mountains close to the lake to increase their livelihood. After breakfast, we will visit the reindeer people and take pictures with reindeer. Drive back ger camp, lunch and rest of the day we will spend riding horses along the lake’s shore.

Day 13 Uran Togoo extinct volcano

Urantogoo volcano became extinct 800,000 years ago. Northern slope of the mountain and inside of the crater are covered with trees and has a small lake. Top of the mountain is accessible after some challenging hike up and the vista is amazing once you are on the top.

Day 14Amarbayasgalant Monastery

Along the way to Amarbayasgalant monastery, we will drive via Erdenet copper mine city and a central town of Bulgan province. Amarbaysgalant is the second large and the most stunning architectural monastery. It was built in Chinese and Mongolian style between 1727 and 1736. In the afternoon, visit the monastery and see huge statues of Buddha built on the mountains.

Day 15Arrive back Ulaanbaatar
